Welcome to our idyllic setting.
The land on which Greenbrier Academy stands has long been known as a place of restorative power. At the beginning of the twentieth century, tourists would flock to our scenic corner of West Virginia to stay at the original Pence Springs Hotel and enjoy the health benefits of its nearby mineral springs. In fact, it was so widely renowned that the mineral water flowing in the Pence Springs won a top award at the 1904 St. Louis Expo.
After a fire destroyed the original hotel in 1918, Andrew Spence built the building that now houses Greenbrier’s residential quarters, dining hall, common areas and administrative offices. Over the years, our main building served many purposes including a finishing school for girls founded by Eleanor Roosevelt.
While at Greenbrier Academy, your daughter will be surrounded by 140 acres of woodland, dogs and cats from our Animal Fostering program, horses in our stables and multiple buildings dedicated to all aspects of her well-being. This serene, natural setting provides a safe refuge from the calamity of modern teenage life and allows her to heal without distraction.
We invite you to come visit Greenbrier to experience the grounds and community first-hand. Simply contact our admissions team to set up a tour.
Your daughter will feel right at home at Greenbrier. From our beautifully appointed great room to our tranquil and relaxing sun porch, no detail has been overlooked to provide the best home away from home experience.
“Hands-on,” “creative” and “engaging” are some wonderful terms that have been used to describe the academic experience at Greenbrier. Your daughter will rediscover her love of learning while receiving the best education tailored specifically to her needs.
THE FITNESS CENTER
We all know how important physical activity is to overall health. Our Balanced Body & Mind program offers your daughter everything from yoga to volleyball. We have a modern fitness center complete with gym equipment and a basketball court that’s used for various team-building sports. Our girls also enjoy walking the dogs on the big outdoor track.
THE STABLE & RIDING AREA
The barn at Greenbrier becomes a place of refuge even for girls who don’t ride. For girls who enjoy riding, we offer many opportunities for her to hone her skills and talents.
